Fecal Incontinence
Some women are troubled with leakage of stool. This concern can often be partially or completely resolved with surgery to repair the external anal sphincter. The external anal sphincter is surgically integrated with the muscles of the perineum to help provide support to maintain continence.
Other times, fecal incontinence occurs because a pocket develops in the base of the rectum, trapping residual stool that sporadically seeps out. This is addressed with vaginal surgery to correct the wall that supports the rectum.
Lastly, some fecal incontinence must be addressed with Colorectal Specialists. There is testing available that can be ordered to help ascertain the functional abnormalities leading to the incontinence.
